Proposal For High Street Regeneration (A Concept): Final Presentation

At this moment in time the world is going through a recession.

This downturn in the economy has resulted in direct physical impact on the town centres as we know it.  In efforts to strengthen the spirit and uplift the image of this remarkable town, drastic changes have to be made to revolutionize the foreseeable future.  In anticipation of the prospects of the economy and the impact it has on businesses local and worldwide we have come up with a groundbreaking concept that could be applied in Kirklees and other municipalities across the UK.

Clarity of speaking

I think my presentation was not only informative but creative and graphic as well. I focused on my speed of speech while keeping genuine eye contact with my peers in the room. This in turn helped me to focus on bringing my point across more effectively.

Use of Audio /Visuals

I used visuals to help my audience interact to get my point across. By means of  empty shops then 3D visualisations of what these shops would look like after. Comparisons were also made with various techniques by different companies we could use. My confidence shined through knowing that presentation visuals were key to capturing my audience.

Clarity of Language

My language was extremely clear focusing on pronounciations and pace

Body Language

A huge amount of positive body language was used, by way of hands to getting my point across. Breathing techniques were also used to come across as more relaxed. Questions were asked getting everyone involved.

Pace/ Speed of Delivery

My pace was good but a bit too much information  again on my slides again mean

t that i went over my ten minutes slightly. But i felt it was needed for the benefit of the audience

Structure

I then focused on strategies  to make this concept a reality.  These included finding the focal point why these shops were closing. I then came to a conclusion that it was mainly because people aren’t spending and needed to find a way of how to increase company confidence in the marketplace.

The concept included getting corporate entities involved in Cheap advertising by 3d displays and imagery in empty shops to boost morale in the current marketplace while making towns and cites look better. Making people wanting to actually rent/buy them.  In turn improving the economy on a whole by getting public spending up again.

ARE CARTOONS TOO VIOLENT NOWADAYS

My presentation was about ‘are cartoons voilent Nowadays’. I started off by introducing myself and pitching what my pitch was about.  Getting the audience involved by  playing a voilent cartoon video first.  It was basically about cartoon childen watch on tv and what we can do to help. This involved the pro’s and cons of the watching cartoons. I didnt want it to be too technical, long or too scripted.

Overall Evaluation

Given the time i think i could have done a better job in terms of screen text being too long and the video being too long which too me 3 mins over. But the audience didnt seem to mind. But in terms of presenting i did it to the best of my ability falling above the required time frame. I suppose it could have flowed a bit smoother if i did had some water. Other presentations were quite good and informative as well.

Hopefully i have picked up enough today to learn from my mistakes and improve substantially

A Comparison between the I Phone 3G and the Iphone  3Gs

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for listening to my presentation.

My presentation started off by introducing myself and pitching what my blog was about.  it was bascically a comparison between the old i phone 3g and the new 3gs and why some one would choose between them. This involved the pro’s and cons of the hardware, new features, pricing, speed and over all effectiveness of this remarkable hardware.

I used visuals to help my audience interact from my 3g version. Comparisons were also made to a blackberry that was available from a coleague as well. My confidence shined through knowing that my product knowledge was up to speed. I didnt want it to be too technical, long or too scripted.

Sometimes when im explainig my self or elabortating i tend to use frequent hand gestures and my facial expressions change i like to picture something before i say it so to speak

Auditory

For instance in my project i used sample s of a steel pan to distinguish the different types of pan in the pan family instead of using pictures to do this . the same principal applies for when i make my own music basically how i would make a beat is by listening to music and then its as if i can hear my own melody

Kinasthetic

Personally i think kinasthetic learning is the most prefered learning style because when i was thinking of what to do for my presentation i thought of the idea of hiop hop music because its something that i already kno but to elaborate deeper into this would be a challegene how i put my project together was by listening to music videos and pictures to symbolise what i was talking about.

I entered the PDL  not knowing what the course was about or understanding its relevance in regards to a media course.
However I can comfortably walk away from the experience saying that I learned something about making presentations utilising PowerPoint .

Throughout the course I went through the 4 phases of the learning cycle Experiencing, Reflecting, Experimenting and Theorising .
I realised that I learn best from experience (Kinaesthetic Learning) as opposed to Auditory or Visual Learning.

Throughout the course I found that I took the most from each experience after I applied all the accumulated knowledge to a real life application.  I did three presentations in total making improvements each time from prior mistakes which culminated in a strong final Performance.

After my first presentation I realised  I would need to approach the next one with a  detailed set of cue cards in order to correctly deliver my point.  By the end of my second presentation I had the structure planned out, but unfortunately I forgot to correctly sequence my points.  After alittle finetuning  my final presentation ran smoothly as all the kinks had been ironed out from my Kinaesthetic experience.

Finally I can see where I could maximise any learning experience by approaching it with a hands on real life approach.

My first presentation was on the steel pan family and the origins of the steel pan and how it is formed to make the sound that it produces.  I also talked about the many different parts of the steel band and how each individual pan plays a key part in the band.  I found this topic easy 2 expresss myself because its something that i love music.

Clarity of speaking/language used

In myself i think that the language of my presentation was clear and concise and straight to the point however the one thing that i think i struggled on is moving from each different slide on powerpoint i did experience some technical difficulty bt worked through it in the end i confidently pitched my presentation.  I think everyone understood what i was talking about clearly because i delivered to the best of my ability.  How i broke the presentation down into sections was like this for example i started thr presentation off with the origin of pan basically explaining where it originated from the merged into the more technical side of it with the different pan types in a steel band and little sound clips of what each individual pan sounds like.

How i used the powerpoint to my advantage was by emphasisng the vidieos that i used of gang members explaining how they fight for terrirtory i feel that i fully utillisied the options to the fullest although we was set a 10 minute deadline for the project but because the topic is somthing that comes natrually to me (hip hop music and songwriting) i went over the elapsed time beacue this is a topic i could talk about alll day and night to be very honest.

Now the clarity of language used was not basic and not to complex it was fully understandable and very brief and to the point so to speak

I think that establishing  eye contact is a primary objective when delivering  a presentation.  At all times i kept fulll eye contact with the audience but also at times if i was asked a certain question by an individual in the audience and would focus on that one individual until the question was done .

Pace / Speed of Delivery

Basically the thing with a presentation like mine was its a topic i could talk about for hours the time limit was ten mins i think i went over by quite a fair bit because i was so into my presentation that i was fluently speaking without watching the time.  But another tecnique that i was going to use for this would be to shorten down some of the slides and keep it to a more brief delivery.  I feel that i didnt allocte the time evenly because of one perticular part in the presentation i took the most time on.  But if i was to do another presentation i knew where my strenghts and weaknesses are and i would better them the third time round.

Structure (intro, points, conclusion use of notes & questions)

The intro of my project was stong concise and very brief and all the way though the project i was fluent and wen it came to my conclusion i wrapped it up in one brief ending.

Answering questions at the end

At first when i did my intro i asked questions at the start to the audience the question was wat type or genre music does everyone listen to so the opportunity was at the start and the end giving the audience chance to answer on 2 seperate times but i felt VERY confident answering all the questions because i thought of every possible question that could be asked about hip hop music.

Overall evaluation

I would rate my project overall an 4 the reason why i have given myself a 4 is because everything else went to plan apart from the allocated time.

Points that be taken on to my next presentation

The key point that i could take for my next presentation is the allocated time the cue cards and what i sholud write on them so that im not reading off the board obviously the level of confidence and the strong intro is what would make a better and clearer presentation.

Over View

My final Presentation Was on the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I used PowerPoint to outline the history and development of the car between 1992 to present day. Overall  The delivery of my presentation was strong and flowed  smoothly.

The presentation was broken down into 10 parts each describing the development of the Lancer Evolution. My  Speech was fluent and clear.

Power point was used to present a series of pictures depicting the Evolution and accolades of the car .A video was included at the end which brought the presentation to life.

I Stayed away from technical jargon as much as possible and broke down all the technical areas of the presentation into lay mans terms where it was possible.

I have vast knowledge on the topic so I found it easy to deliver my presentation with confidence. I comfortably addressed my audience making eye contact  the occasional banter and several jokes.

Pace of Delivery

I was allotted 10 min in which to deliver my presentation. The presentation had two phases a verbal aspect using slides  and a short video clip a the end. Unfortunately I over shot the  time permitted however I did manage to deliver the most salient points in under 10 Min’s and the time that remained were purely for entertainment value. Overall I think the  time was utilised fairly well.

Structure

I opened on a humorous note with  a play on words using the term Evolution as it relates to man kind. I broke the topic into 10 steps  showing the development of the car over the years and tied it together with  a video clip which emphasised all the key elements of the subject . The question and answer section then flowed as the video clip was playing.

Overall Evaluation

My Final Presentation went really well .  I fine tuned the structure and delivery drawing from lessons learned from errors made in previous presentations. Overall my performance was smooth, concise and to the point ,providing loads of information on the subject without being boring .
